Black…Out.

May 27th, 2008 by sarah

One thing I try to use less of in the Spring and Summer months is black eyeliner.  There is something really cold and stark about black eyeliner when the rest of you is all a glow.  Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m an eyeliner phine, black being my favorite, but there are so many other colors out there that you could  be obsessing with.

I’m a big fan of rich colors on my eyes year around, but especially now that the weather is warmer.  Instead of going black you can opt for rich purples, blues, greens and browns.  You’d be surprised what a colored eyeliner can do for your eyes.

Here’s a few shades that will work magic on almost anyone…just remember you can find colored eyeliners at your local drugstore, if you just want to test out this trend.  If you decide you love the look, you might want to splurge on a few colors, I think MAC has the best range and their liners go on so smooth and are blendable.

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencil:  These liners are great because they go on smooth, they blend really well and they come in a huge variety of colors.  I personally like Covet (green) and Gunmetal (purple/blue) because they go well with blue eyes like mine, but work equally as well on green eyes.

MAC Fluidline:  Gel eyeliners are great because you get rich color with a smooth application.  It’s like a liquid eyeliner, without all the mess.  I love this liner in Blue Peep (featured) because it reminds me of a swimming pool.  This color would work great under your lower lash line.

Stila Eye Shadow:  Some of you might be wondering why I’m featuring an eye shadow, but they work wonderful as eyeliners.  I actually got this color in a set, it came as a duo with Jezebel and a full size of Kitten.  At first I had no clue what to do with this shadow because it went on so dark, but soon I started using it as a liner, and now it’s one of my favorite colors to line my eyes with.  All I do is dip my eyeliner brush in a little water then tap the brush on the shadow and apply it like I would with a gel liner.  This color really makes my blue eyes stand out and works great with neutral tones.

Cargo SmokyEye Eyeliner Duo:  This set is absolutely gorgeous and reminds me of the sea (Skye).  This duo comes with a cream and powder formula that you can use alone or together.  To make the shadow really stay, apply the powder formula over the cream.  There are six shades to choose from, Skye and Madagascar (deep purple) being my favorite.

No matter what your eye color, there is a shade out there for you.  You can buy an eyeliner that will really stand out and make a statement or you can go with a deeper, richer color to get the same effects of black liner, without all the black.  Either way you go, colored eyeliners are fresh and fun.

I love colored liner. Back in high school, I totally rocked the electric blue liner.

…except it looked terrible. But that’s besides the point.

The thing is, it probably didn’t look terrible back then.

The good news is that you can whip it back out again. I’m sure we’ll all hate it again in a few years…

About Cupcakes Taste Nice

My lust for beauty products has been around since I was a kid. I always wanted the most eye catching packaging and the sweetest scents. As a preteen I could not wait to get my first pimple so that I could try out the different acne products that were marketed to me in magazines and on TV. As I got older I just loved the girlie side of wanting to look and feel pretty. I love taking a shower on Saturday morning and having a plethora of products to choose from depending on my mood that day. I anticipate my beauty and style magazines coming in the mail so I can read and research new products. I even spend hours on the internet searching for factual reviews of the latest and greatest products.
