Beauty Forever?

August 25th, 2008 by sarah

Over the last five years tattoos have become more and more popular with both men and women.  Several years ago you might have met someone with a tattoo and thought, “I hope that really means something to you”, but today a tattoo is almost like a beauty accessory to adorn your body with.

More and more people in my life are getting tattoos.  My aunt got a tattoo on her 40th birthday of a Texas Longhorn because she is a die-hard fan.  My brother and sister-in-law have both gotten tattoos in the last few years (my brother had one from the Navy that he hid from our mom for I don’t know how many years).  And let’s not forget my loving husband who has the best collection going on…everything from a heart with his name in it, a hotdog, an Asian inspired sleeve, a cowgirl (for his Texas sweetie), Ralph Wiggum (picking his nose) and his newest tattoo that he got this weekend of an umbrella raining the letters Tacoma for the town he was born in (plus several others).

Over the years I have battled with the decision on whether or not I want a tattoo.  I’m a bit of a scardy cat when it comes to needles and major life decisions, but there is something about getting something you love on your body to mark a moment in time.  And at the rate our generation is going there are probably going to be fewer people in the world who don’t have tattoos in 20 years time (my estimated guess).  It’s so mainstream now that several of our most beloved celebrities sport tattoos.

So, should tattoos be considered art?  Something beautiful that is applied to oneself such as makeup?  Or are tattoos just a trend where a huge chunk of us will be left with a bunch of ink stained into our skin?

About Cupcakes Taste Nice

My lust for beauty products has been around since I was a kid. I always wanted the most eye catching packaging and the sweetest scents. As a preteen I could not wait to get my first pimple so that I could try out the different acne products that were marketed to me in magazines and on TV. As I got older I just loved the girlie side of wanting to look and feel pretty. I love taking a shower on Saturday morning and having a plethora of products to choose from depending on my mood that day. I anticipate my beauty and style magazines coming in the mail so I can read and research new products. I even spend hours on the internet searching for factual reviews of the latest and greatest products.
