Immaculate Lipgloss
I ran upon The Makeup Project thanks to my friend Kathryn (hi, Kathryn). Since jumping into the world of beauty, I’m constantly getting suggestions for my blog. I’m kind of an independent thinker and a bit hard-headed, so I don’t always jump on every suggestion that is given to me, but Kathryn is a girl with great style so I decided to check out the website for The Makeup Project.
When I entered the site, I instantly knew three things. One, I was absolutely in love with the Virgin Mary packaging, I am a huge fan of Mexican art and I had never seen such imaginative and beautiful packaging for makeup. Second, I knew I wanted the gorgeous candy-dripping colored gloss. Thirdly, I loved the fact that the gloss was created by a local Northwesterner. I decided to be bold and email someone about getting a sample of the gloss. I knew it was a 50/50 shot, so why not?
After a few weeks I finally realized I wasn’t going to hear back about getting any samples, but finally I received an email from the creator herself, Courtney Gilmore. She very sweetly apologized for not getting back to me and told me she had been working on promoting her gloss in Paris over the last month. Seemed like the perfect excuse to me. She then asked which gloss was my favorite and I settled on the candy-pink color of Virgin M. I was expecting only one tube of gloss, but in a week’s time I had my hands on four fabulous colors. I was a little more than excited.
I was sent my first two choices, Virgin M (candy pink color) and Sacrifice (a coral-ish color) as well as Serpentine (a bronzy-pink) and Ritual (a bronze). By the way, aren’t you loving the names? I knew off the bat that I would love the first two colors, but I was a little iffy about the bronze colors since I don’t usually go for them. But, after trying them on I was very surprised with how sheer they were and how flattering they were on my pale skin. It also turns out that Serpentine, the bronzy-pink color, is probably one of my favorites. It’s been a staple in my purse all summer.
I’ve used the glosses all summer and I’m truly in love with all four. Besides the colors being incredibly pretty and wearable, the gloss itself is so easy to wear…all day long. I love the fact that the shades go on a bit sheerer then they look in their tubes. They work great over your favorite lipstick or alone. I tend to wear the gloss alone; I love the sheer shades and sparkle they give to my lips. Probably the best thing about the gloss is the fact that they don’t get goopy, which is a huge pet peeve of mine. They also have great staying power and leave my lips feeling moisturized; not dried out, which happens with some of my glosses. The smell is also amazing. I’ve been trying to figure out what exactly they smell like, and I settled on caramel, but it turns out that they are lemon cake scented. I literally just reached for one of the glosses and took a big whiff and I can totally smell the lemon cake scent now. Either way, it smells delicious.
The cool thing about The Makeup Project is that there is a new theme each year. I had the privilege to try out the gloss from the debut collection, Immaculate, and was lucky enough to get four out of the six colors in the collection, but I would love to have all of them. I can’t wait to see what Courtney comes out with for next year. And don’t think that Courtney is just some girl who decided to come out with a makeup company. She’s actually been a professional makeup artist for 12 years and has worked in the movie industry as well as the fashion industry. Her goal was to create a collection of beautifully crafted lipglosses made of the most prestigious ingredients and I have to say, she did just that.
As of right now Courtney is busy creating her new collection and working as a makeup artist. Please check back soon to read my exclusive interview with Courtney. In the mean time, check out The Makeup Project website to learn more about Courtney and her gloss. Please don’t be surprised if you fall in love with all of them!
