Palette Wonderfulness
A few weeks ago my husband mentioned to me that he had a bottle of perfume to return to Sephora. I was a little confused why he had even purchased anything from Sephora, not to mention perfume. In his perfect guy way he told me, “Oh yeah, I forgot to tell you, I bought you some of that Gwen-whatever perfume for Christmas, but then I found out my dad got it for you too and then I forgot to return it.” As you can probably guess, the Gwen-whatever perfume is actually the Harajuku Lovers G perfume. Either way, I was going to Sephora.
Nevermind that my husband had been hanging onto this perfume for several months now, the real treat was that I was going to get to make a special trip to Sephora; a store I have been avoiding lately due to the recession. I knew exactly what I was going to trade in the perfume for, the new Lorac Color Me Couture eyeshadow palette.
Sephora can be a bit overwhelming when you first walk in. I start to feel like I’m six years old again, trying to decide which aisle I need to run through first in Toys R Us. I decided to peruse the different makeup sections before I walked over to the Lorac display, but the whole time I knew what I was in there for.
But, to my surprise there was a new palette by Lorac, right next to the Color Me Couture palette (of course), called the Multi-Platinum palette. Crap! I was going to have to make a decision. Color Me Couture and Multi-Platinum couldn’t be any more different (except for the price, they are both $37)…CMC is a neutralish Safari (I came up with that description) color palette that has a hint of golden sparkle in every shade. MP is filled with cooler tones and these beautiful peacock blue shades. CMC comes with an applicator brush and MP has a peachy-pink blush. I had no clue what to do, so I asked a sales person for their expert opinion.
The lady who helped me (hi Keli if you found my site!) happened to be quite informative. I told her I was wanting my eyes to pop and I was worried that the blue shades in the MP palette would make my already blue eyes look like a blob. But, she informed me that the shades would look great with my skin tone (I have a lot of pink in my skin) and would actually complement my eyes well. She even mention that the blues would look great as a liner, which just happened to be my thought exactly. She also informed me that the CPC palette had Mother of Pearl instead of shimmer, which I knew, but what I didn’t know was that Mother of Pearl is an antioxidant and is great for fine lines and wrinkles.
The decision was a hard one, but I ultimately went with the MP palette due to the fact that I really loved the blush and the blue eyeshadows and it was something totally different than I already had. My other reasoning was because the CPC palette has become so popular that Sephora has decided to make it a mainstay, so I knew I could always go back in to get it. I also found out from Keli that you can return ANYTHING that you don’t like at Sephora, even if it’s been used, and there is no time frame that you have to return it by. So, if I end up hating the MP palette, I know that I can come back for the CPC.
So, there is my long drawn out story for the day. I really think both palettes are wonderful and if you’re like me and can’t decide, just cover your eyes and do eeny, meeny, miny, moe…I’m positive you’ll be happy with whatever you land on.
