Blue Crush

July 21st, 2010 by sarah

We are now smack dab in the dead heat of summer.  Nothing quenches ‘dead heat’ like a dip in the pool.

Why not translate that cool, summery, pool-side feeling and don your nails in shades of blue?

I have been fighting this trend for awhile, trying to convince myself that shades of aqua only belong on the nails of a teen.  But, after trying out a few colors out, I have to admit that I am in love with bright shades of blue…

While there are many shades of blue out on the market at every price point, I have rounded up my favorite shades.  Here’s what I’m itching to wear, and already wearing:

Nailtini Straight Up Color in AdidosThis color looks universally flattering on fair and tan skin tones.  I like this on hands for  fair skin ladies, and on the toes of bronze beach-goers.

Essie Lapis of LuxuryThis sophisticated shade of ‘bleu’ is part of Essie’s Resort Collection and works as a neutral, believe it or not.  Once again, a universally flattering shade which works well on both hands and feet!

OPI Catch Me in Your NetPart of the Summer Flutter collection, this sparkling shade of blue-green is not for the timid or shy.  This shade works best on tan to darker skin tones (fearless fair-skin feel free to conquer this shade) and would look fabulous with a strappy pair of metallic sandals!

Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in Pacific BlueThis picture does not do this shade justice!  This happens to be the color that swept me into the blue nail craze of summer.  The actual color is much more cornflower blue and oh-so-pretty.  While this color can work with most skin tones, it really pops against fair skin.  But, at $2.99, everyone should give it a whirl!

Nars in Blue LagoonThis limited edition shade is part of Nars’ Vintage Collection and I’m in love.  I love the powder blue color and the hint of iridescence.  This color would flatter fair to medium skin tones.

Sally Hansen Insta-Dri in Brisk BlueThis is another winner from Sally Hansen that I tried out (with a quick swipe at the drugstore…so, so, so bad of me).  This turquoise shade is bright, punchy, fun, and perfect for summer.  This was a little to bright on my nails for my fair skin toned, but I could see loving it on my toes…and ahem, it’s under $5 and dries in a minute.

So, if you’re over 25 and are in a nail polish rut, go out and try a pool-side shade of blue!

*A little nail polish tip from me to you:  If you’re interested in a shade, but not sure how it will look, just Google Images the brand and nail color and you’ll find tons of pictures of people modeling the shades.

These colors are so fun! Typically, I would never reach for blue, but I’m kinda loving all these.

About Cupcakes Taste Nice

My lust for beauty products has been around since I was a kid. I always wanted the most eye catching packaging and the sweetest scents. As a preteen I could not wait to get my first pimple so that I could try out the different acne products that were marketed to me in magazines and on TV. As I got older I just loved the girlie side of wanting to look and feel pretty. I love taking a shower on Saturday morning and having a plethora of products to choose from depending on my mood that day. I anticipate my beauty and style magazines coming in the mail so I can read and research new products. I even spend hours on the internet searching for factual reviews of the latest and greatest products.
