Foundation Review And A Lorac Sale Too

Recently I decided that I need to get out of my powder foundation rut, and try a new hand at liquid foundation.  It’s been about 10 years since I’ve used the liquid stuff, and I thought it was about time to set my old mindsets aside and give it another whirl.  What spawned my new open mind?  Well, I keep reading about some of my favorite celebs using liquid foundation…and I love the way their skin looks, so I’m hoping for similar results…dewy, natural, glowing skin (fingers crossed).

Of course, I didn’t jump in head first, I had to test some formulas out.  I first started out by reading a few reviews on Sephora and MakeupAlley, two amazing resources.  After pinpointing what I was looking for; oil-free, skin enhancing, anti-aging, natural ingredients, I decided on a few brands and headed out to Sephora to try them out.  At Sephora, I ended up trying out Korres (sadly couldn’t find a good match), Stila, and Lorac.

I setteled on two formulas: Lorac Breakthrough Performance Foundation and Stila Natural Finish Oil Free Foundation.  After finding a shade that matched, I went home with a sample to try both products out, but I was secretly hoping I would fall in love with the Lorac because it had a ton of skin boosting ingredients.

I started out using the Stila for a few days, and while it was okay, I wasn’t in love with it.  I felt that the coverage was a little too sheer for me, and I had some issues with it settling into my pores, a major reason why I stopped using liquid foundation ten years ago.  I was almost convinced that I should stick to what I know, but decided to give the Lorac formula a chance.  It was a good decision.  I instantly fell in love with the Lorac Breakthrough Performance formula.  It covered well, but didn’t make me look cakey, it blended effortlessly, and I had zero problems with it settling into pores.  It also matched my skin tone brilliantly (SMS 2 Light), and I was left with dewy, glowing skin…just like I wanted.

I also loved the Lorac because it had a ton of good for your skin ingredients…it’s basically a foundation and a anti-aging serum in one.  The formula contains an SMS Complex and SPF 14 which combines pre-aging, anti-aging, hydrating, and smoothing ingredients along with antioxidants to help skin appear youthful, rejuvenated, and radiant.  It’s also free of sulfates, synthetic ingredients, synthetic dyes, petro-chemicals, and phthalates…yuck.

Sounds too good to be true, right…well…

…the thing I wasn’t loving was the $38 price tag, not to mention, it is a little more time consuming to apply liquid foundation and get that ‘I’m not wearing any makeup’ look.  But, then here’s what happened.  I decided to check out Lorac’s website (first time I actually ever visited the site, which is kind of weird because I am a fan of Lorac) and I saw this section called ‘VIP Discount’.  VIP?  Who me?  I started to peruse the products and I started noticing there was a ton of great stuff for like super cheap.  Now, here is where you’ll get confused.  I spotted an oil-free foundation for $7.50, originally $30…and they had my shade (or what I assumed would be similar, S2).  Then I spotted, this great undereye concealor…then I spotted this great lip gloss…and then there was this super cheap lip stick.  All of a sudden I had all these products in my shopping bag for $10 LESS than what the Breakthrough Performance foundation would have cost me alone.  It didn’t take long for me to make a decision.  By the time I checked out my grand total was $39, with shipping, and I walked away with five different products.

Even though I really loved the Breakthrough Performance foundation, I figured, I should first make sure I really love foundation before investing that much into a 1 oz bottle.  Plus, I figured I really couldn’t go wrong with the same brand…and if I do hate the foundation, at least I have a million other products to swoon after.  So, there is my semi-review of Lorac Breakthrough Foundation and Stila Natural Finish Foundation.  I’ll let you in on how I’m liking the Lorac Oil Free $7.50 special foundation…and maybe I’ll brave another video review with a demo of how I’m applying my foundation.  If you get anything out of the review, I want you to make like a VIP and head over to Lorac to stock up on some super beauty steals…trust me, it’s worth it.

How did you like the LORAC oil-free foundation? I am considering ordering it myself, at such a great price tag, and my skin loves LORAC products, but wanted to find a review of it first…

Erin- to be honest, the foundation was just okay. The color was great, it didn’t fade to orange, but the coverage was minimal and without major blending, it easily settled into my pores. But, I would say for the price, it’s totally worth the purchase to at least try it out. It might work totally different for you. I hope that helps!

About Cupcakes Taste Nice

My lust for beauty products has been around since I was a kid. I always wanted the most eye catching packaging and the sweetest scents. As a preteen I could not wait to get my first pimple so that I could try out the different acne products that were marketed to me in magazines and on TV. As I got older I just loved the girlie side of wanting to look and feel pretty. I love taking a shower on Saturday morning and having a plethora of products to choose from depending on my mood that day. I anticipate my beauty and style magazines coming in the mail so I can read and research new products. I even spend hours on the internet searching for factual reviews of the latest and greatest products.
