Hair Therapy

Is your hair damaged?  More than likely it probably is.  Between coloring, blow drying, curling, straightening and every other type of torture we succumb our hair to on a daily basis, how could our hair stay healthy?  One of the best things you can do is to get trims regularly to cut the damage out of your hair.  But, the next best thing is making sure your hair is moisturized and pampered every once in awhile.

Last summer my hair was in a bad way and I was at the point that I’d try anything to get my hair healthy again.  I was in the organic product section of my local grocery store one day when the Burt’s Bees Avocado Butter Pre-Shampoo treatment caught my eye.  I read the back of the package and it was exactly what my hair was calling for, a treatment that was made especially for damaged hair.  I decided to try it out on a Saturday when I had extra time to spend in the shower because I wanted to leave the treatment on my hair for about 20 minutes.  Since this is a pre-shampoo I applied it before shampooing.  I squeezed out a generous portion and started spreading it throughout my hair.  The product was very thick and hard to put in my hair, I’ve learned to kind of warm it up in my hands first, it helps to smooth it on.  So, I applied it throughout my hair, focusing on the ends, and then I loosely wrapped my hair up with a clip.  After about 20 minutes I rinsed it out the best I could and then decided to apply a moisturizing shampoo for added moisture.  Bad idea.  Five minutes into blow drying my hair I could tell my hair had an oily film all over it.  I had to jump back in the shower and rinse my hair again.

I have to admit, it took me a few times to really like this treatment.  I was not happy about it not rinsing out well the first time, but I later learned to use a shampoo that was more foaming and not loaded with a bunch of added moisture.  I also learned to not add conditioner after I shampooed, this step is totally not necessary with this treatment (for me at least).  After I learned how to work with the product, I started loving the way my hair looked after I used it.  My hair was extremely soft and manageable.  It also had a very light feel to it, the treatment no longer made my hair feel heavy.  I now use this treatment about once a month since I’ve cut my hair.  Before I cut my hair I was using the treatment about once a week.

This avocado butter treatment can be used on any hair type and texture, just know how to use it and realize that it might take a few times before you figure out what works best for your hair.  As for me, I have fine hair that breaks easily, and what works best for me is to use the treatment once a month and then shampoo it out with a volumizing shampoo, skipping out on conditioner.  If you have corse, curly hair, you might want to use this once a week and you could even leave it on for a few hours to get a super deep conditioning.  After you shampoo (you could probably get by with a moisturizing shampoo) you might want to add conditioner for extra moisture.  This method could also work for straight, yet severely dry hair.  Either way, you can tailor this treatment to work for you.  No matter what hair type you have this treatment is made for anyone who styles their hair regulary…and I think that’s most of us!

About Cupcakes Taste Nice

My lust for beauty products has been around since I was a kid. I always wanted the most eye catching packaging and the sweetest scents. As a preteen I could not wait to get my first pimple so that I could try out the different acne products that were marketed to me in magazines and on TV. As I got older I just loved the girlie side of wanting to look and feel pretty. I love taking a shower on Saturday morning and having a plethora of products to choose from depending on my mood that day. I anticipate my beauty and style magazines coming in the mail so I can read and research new products. I even spend hours on the internet searching for factual reviews of the latest and greatest products.
