Took The Plunge
Well, I finally bought bareMinerals foundation this weekend. I’ve been very loyal to my MAC Studio Fix for over 5 years now, but I wanted to switch it up and see what else was out there. I know that bareMinerals isn’t a new phenomenon, but I opted to forgo the Bare Mineral rush several years ago, but I’ve always been curious to see what all the hype was about.
So, I popped on in to Ulta on Saturday with a mission to pick up the foundation powder and nothing else. I know that the bareMinerals line has about a million different products that they claim you “need”. I wanted the foundation and I wanted to be out of there. I had to wait around a bit to have someone help me with a color selection (they were busy applying bareMinerals to about 5 other women at the time). I assumed I would be Fair, but it turns out I’m Fairly Light. Without the sales lady even having to ask me, I inquired about the starter kits they had available (I couldn’t stop myself). It turned out to be a good deal, the kit comes with two shades of the SPF 15 foundation, Mineral Veil, Warmth All-Over Face Color, Glee All-Over Face color and three of their best brushes (Handi Buki brush, Concealer brush and the Flawless Application brush). I got all of this for $60, and the sizes weren’t dinky either, the kit is supposed to last anywhere from 3-6 months.
The kit also came with a handy dandy how-to DVD which I popped in last night. I have to admit that I probably didn’t need to watch the DVD, I’m one of those people who watch infomercials (I don’t plan on watching them, I just get captivated easily). I’ve probably seen the bareMinerals infomercial five or six times (lame, I know). But, I decided to watch the DVD anyway to make sure nothing had changed. It was a good idea to watch the DVD because I had no clue what to do with the Warmth or Glee All-Over Face Color. I flipped through the sections I didn’t need and was on my way.
This morning was my first try at using the makeup. I did all the steps and liked the look, it just took forever. This is probably because it was my first day trying out the makeup, so hopefully my skills will tighten up a little bit. I also have to note that they’re not kidding when they say to only apply a tiny amount of the Warmth color. I did apply what I thought was a tiny amount, but I still ended up looking a little too tan for my own good. I’m of course going to have to give the makeup about a week or so before I can say if this was a hit or miss purchase.
So far I do like the natural look and the luminosity it gives, but I don’t like the time it takes to just apply the foundation. I’m also curious to see if this stuff is really good for my skin or not, I’ve heard a lot of people say that bareMinerals has made them break out. If that’s the case, then I’ll be through with the stuff. Stay tuned!!

I have it and I like it. It does go faster once you’ve done it a few times – take it from someone who doesn’t wear make-up (besides this to cover up my skin).
I think it made my skin better actually, well my mom said she noticed? ha ha.
I think the people who say it made them break out maybe didn’t wash their brushes enough? That is always a big culprit. Its crazy when you wash them how much stuff you see rinses out.
I hope you like it!

So do you just use the powder foundation or did you buy the kit too? I like the results so far, but it takes FOREVER to apply it. I’m hoping I get my technique down soon. Washing your brushes is so important…I try to wash them once a week.

I got the kit! I can’t remember what shade I wear but I do the foundation, a touch of the Warmth, and the Mineral Veil.
I never watched the DVD. I keep meaning too and I really should. Maybe I will do that tonight!
