Deskne

April 8th, 2008 by sarah

You might be asking yourself, “what in the world is deskne?”, and that would be a very good question because I just made the word up.  We all know what acne is, and bacne, but what about deskne?  Sure, it might not flow as well as bacne, but it’s still an important topic.

Deskne is my new made up word for all the pimples people get on their faces from sitting at a desk day in and day out.  Most people don’t have the luxury of a job away from a desk.  Most people in the workforce are stuck behind a desk, reaching for and touching the same items over and over again.  Then the stress sits in and that’s when people start resting there chins in their hands, scratching their cheeks, answering phones while eating chips…you get the idea.  Bacteria is all over your desk because of bad habits and daily functions and your skin is what suffers.  I have a few tips to helping keeping your desk clean and sanitary and your face free of unwanted pimples, aka “deskne”.

First and foremost you need to keep some sort of sanitary product at your desk, be it sanitizing wipes, a bottle of alcohol or instant sanitizing gel.  Now, sit back and think of all the things you touch during the day.  I’m talking about your keyboard, your lamp, your phone and your mouse.  You need to wipe these things down everyday before you go home to get rid of all the oils and bacteria that had a chance to form throughout the day.  Another trick is to spray Lysol on these items a few times a week.  I’d say the phone is probably your biggest enemy.  You know those pimples that like to pop up mysteriously on the sides of your cheeks?  Yeah, well it’s more than likely from your phone (cell phones count too!).  You not only have the keys on your phone but you also have the receiver which includes the phone handle, the speaker piece and the ear piece.  Think of the makeup and oil on your skin that touches those parts of the phone several times a day.  Kinda gross, right?  Have you actually ever looked at your phone and seen buildup? If so, you need to clean your phone, stat!

I’m sure some of you are reading this and thinking, duh.  But, for those of you who go to work, eat at your desk, apply lotion and don’t think a thing about it, then it’s high time to make some adjustments.  You are at work for 8 hours in a very confined space, you’re touching the same items over and over again and you’re probably touching your face too.  This leads to nothing good, so keep your desk clean and sanitary!!

I absolutely know what you’re talking about. I work at a call center and am tied to my desk eight hours a day. I wash my hands fanatically and try to be very aware of how often I touch my face.

About Cupcakes Taste Nice

My lust for beauty products has been around since I was a kid. I always wanted the most eye catching packaging and the sweetest scents. As a preteen I could not wait to get my first pimple so that I could try out the different acne products that were marketed to me in magazines and on TV. As I got older I just loved the girlie side of wanting to look and feel pretty. I love taking a shower on Saturday morning and having a plethora of products to choose from depending on my mood that day. I anticipate my beauty and style magazines coming in the mail so I can read and research new products. I even spend hours on the internet searching for factual reviews of the latest and greatest products.
